Great price, great location, great staff, hard beds
Hard bed and pillow, small rooms
This is a typical Japanese business hotel. For the uninitiated, that means small but efficient, and priced relatively well. Our room was 85% occupied by what the Japanese call a “semi-double” bed. There was a desk with a stool to sit on, a TV, and a mini fridge. The bathroom was small, had a Washlet toilet (high-tech bidet, seat warmer), and a small bathtub. Back to the bed — hard, like the pillows. I didn’t care for the hardness of the bed, yet, I seemed to sleep quite well, possibly due to exhaustion. The room has some postcard-sized messages to leave on the bed such as “change the linen” and “make bed only”. The room was always well tidied up when we returned.
The room came with breakfast, too. Breakfast is basically Japanese style. There are a few hot items such as scrambled eggs, and usually two different proteins, one always being some grilled fish, while the other one changes from some sausage link, to small hotdogs (wieners) to small chicken teriyaki chunks. They also have tofu, miso soup, steamed rice, beef curry, orange juice, vegetable juice, coffee, and a variety of breads (and toasters). Butter and jam are also provided. Occasionally, they also had yogurt, and even small pieces of cake (this was during the Christmas season).
The staff is exceedingly kind and outgoing. We left our room key with them every morning. We asked for them to have a taxi waiting at 5AM on our departure day, and there it was. The hotel lobby has a sitting area, with a variety of hot and cold beverages from a free beverage machine. I always got coffee – sugar and cream provided.
The location is excellent. Going out the back of the hotel and turning right, you can walk to Tenjin station in 6 minutes. There are tons of small restaurants of every variety around the area. The bus center is also literally right next door to the hotel (this is where the buses enter, not people). Tenjin the center of the shopping district, and nightlife area.
